Driving along CO-265 (not as good as I had remembered from years back, but still very colorful in areas), this scene came out as we rounded a bend and I had to stop and capture a picture or two.

The Path to Fall Colors

High above the Slate River Valley, this little stand of aspen’s was just begging to be captured!

Color Above The Valley

Wandering around in an aspen grove, the light hit these trees in such a way that the colors of red, gold and yellow were blazing and begging me to shoot them with my camera.

A Cabin in the Woods

The aspen trees were speaking to me in such a way, that I had to shoot this as a focus-stack, capturing the image in as much depth as I could with three (3) focus points; foreground, mid-ground and the background.

Through The Aspen’s

The Castles are an icon of the Ohio Creek Valley in the West Elk Wilderness. The aspen’s were not the usual blazing gold and reds of years past…but with the variations present, it is hard not to appreciate the scene.

Fall Castles

This stand of aspen trees is one that we return to year after year. Almost every year, the trees have this gorgeous red lipstick and when the sun is painting the trees with the brilliant light, there is no ‘bad’ picture (in my opinion).

Lipstick Aspen’s

The annual tradition of capturing the fall foliage on the western slope of Ruby Peak along Kebler Pass. Every year, the patch of red is evident…but varies in intensity! This year, that color was extremely vibrant!

A Patch of Red

One of the biggest groves of aspen trees resides on Kebler Pass in Colorado. The morning sunlight was giving the aspen’s a gorgeous golden glow atop the white trunks.

Layers of Gold

One of our favorite locations; the colors were still just beginning to change…but the peace and serenity of this short hike, early in the morning is soul soothing! To capture the entire scene, I opted to shoot a nine (9) shot panorama.

Anthracite Glass

Something about the sun backlighting the aspen trees just makes me want to capture picture after picture!

Golden Sunstar

Changing it up a little, focusing on the yellow, green, red and clouds above the peak.

Clouds Above The Color

This year, the red was so brilliant and the light was just right…so I had to put the long lens on and capture the scene!!

These Aspen trees were exploding in their vibrant red; just had to capture the color!

A Touch of Red

A couple of years ago, we ventured into some new territory and found this area that is as peaceful and serene as our favorite hike in the area. But, to get here takes a fair bit more effort. The image title says it all…and no, I will not divulge the

Secret Places

I had another image to shoot, once the sun went down…but while waiting, I turned around (always look around, you may see other great images) and saw this magical sunset image!

From the deep reds and browns of the ground cover to the bright yellow’s and green’s of the aspen trees, this scene spoke to me as representation of the fall foliage change!
